Love Bug License Plate
For anyone who has seen the original “Herbie the Love Bug” movies from Disney (The Love Bug, Herbie Rides Again, Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, etc.) this is a metal replica of the famous Beetle’s license plate.This is similar to the California license plates that were issued during 1963-1969, pre-dating the gold on blue six (6) digit/letter (1969-1980) and the seven (7) digit/letter gold on blue license plates (1980-1986).It is a bit thinner than the standard California plate, which I have one from 1982 (belonged to my grandmother’s car) to compare it to. You can barely see the top of the “real” California license plate in the picture.Since it is only for use like what I am doing with this picture – displaying on a wall with the Love Bug ornament or for “show car” displays, it passes the test and looks great.It is, like the plates of that time, embossed and not screen-printed.
