I wish I'd had one earlier

(I have given my review 5 stars but if there had been an opportunity I would have given it only 3 stars for the user friendliness of the PC software.)Installation of the Windows software from the supplied USB stick is straightforward (and, I assume, is similar for Mac). Before the ER1 Monitor is first used it is connected to your computer to synchronise time so that recordings will show the correct times. In my haste to get started I neglected to do this so my first recording showed the incorrect time and date.Using the device is also very straightforward. I didn't use the supplied electrodes as attaching the device to the body strap was simple and caused no discomfort while it was being worn, not even in bed. After wearing the monitor it is connected to your computer to allow the ECG data to be downloaded and then exported for AI analysis. This was the most difficult part of the operation as the software lacks user friendliness and the documentation is not very helpful. It would be friendlier, for example, if the button to close information windows was labelled 'close' rather than 'confirm'.The first few times I tried the software I found no way to quit and had to use Task Manager to end the application. The steps are as follows:Connect the device to your computer and start the AI-ECG Analysis System.Choose Import data (or Download data in an earlier version of the software). In the pop-up box set up a new user (or choose an existing user), then press ConfirmThe data is imported from the device and you can then View ECG or Analyze.View ECG shows the data in graphical form covering many pages.Analyze asks for permission to upload the data to the AI-ECG Platform, and this is the part of the process which is very poor.Once it has been submitted you are told it takes about 30 minutes to analyse each piece of data. As you aren't sure what is meant by 'each piece of data' you might worry that the analysis could take a few years. Also, you are not told the nature of the notification so you might waste a lot of time checking your email looking for a message that will never arrive. If you look carefully you may see that a very small number with an orange background has appeared next to the Notifications tab at the top of the page. This is the notification you have been expecting but you can do nothing about it as the application appears to be frozen. This where I resorted to using Task Manager to escape. In fact, what you need to do is close the information box that tells you the data has been submitted. The close icon is small and easy to miss. Once you have closed it you can click on the Notifications tab and a dropdown list gives you just the first few words of a message to say that an analysis of your data has been completed. You can then View Report. All this sounds quite a mission but it's not quite as bad as I've made it sound and, once you've used it a few times, the quirkiness of the software ceases to be an issue.Seeing the report makes it all worthwhile. The analysis report provides a wealth of information covering the duration of the ECG recording. I had always assumed that my heart was functioning normally but all the recordings I have made with the ER1 are consistent in showing that I have a number of issues which need to be brought to the attention of my doctor. My wife, on the other hand, who suspected she might have heart problems, was delighted that her analysis showed nothing to be concerned about.I just wish that this device had been available to me earlier in my life. One final observation: the manual states that the device will start and stop automatically when you 'put it on/off your body' but I found that the indicator light continues to blink all the time. Wellue say that this can't be turned off and the standby mode of the device is very energy efficient.Postscript added 15 October 2023As the ECG Monitor indicated that I may have heart issues, my doctor advised me to visit a cardiologist. After he'd examined the results of one of my 24-hour ER1 recordings he said that the device may well have saved my life. He was happy to accept the AI report which pointed to atrial fibrillation which could have caused a stroke at any time. If I had not used the ER1 my condition would have gone undiagnosed as I was not experiencing any symptoms.

Affordable Ambulatory 24 hour ECG Holter machine

Useful, reliable, medical grade , 24 hour ambulatory ECG holter machine . Thank you. Need window Laptop computer to read the analysis report which is as good as the hospital report. It doesn't work with Android devices. My GP still wants to repeat the test at the NHS hospital and she won't accept this device solely because it was sold on Amazon platform. Nevertheless, we can still bypass the NHS waiting list for the test.I am extremely satisfied with this device.Well doneDr Htin Aung

Fabulous analysis reports but quite tricky to set up

Initially this device is tricky to set up. The instructions are difficult to follow. For example it says you will need to enter your verification code, I was reading all the small print trying to find my code but it’s actually sent to your email whilst activating your account. It rejected my email address but thankfully I have another one for my business which it accepted. The process of setting it up took me several attempts and several hours. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. Maybe something to do with my old PC. It would be better if this device could be used with a smartphone or iPad but by accident I did discover that you can view live ECG recordings on an iPad but can’t download or get an analysis report without a computer .I first tried the strap and had a very uncomfortable night with it digging into my breasts but the following night was more comfortable by sleeping in my bra. The strap is also reasonably comfortable during the day whilst wearing a bra. (Obviously not a problem for the flat chested)The stick on electrodes were fairly comfortable but are visible with most Summer clothes, would be easier to hide with a high necked pullover. It doesn’t state on the instructions where you can buy replacement disposable electrodes. Some are available on Amazon but not the same brand.Downloading the data is quite time consuming, when you manage to upload it a pop up box tells you it will take about 30 minutes to analyse the data and that you will be notified when it’s finished. The first time I had the computer on for hours and never received a notification. (Never have) but if you just close the screen after about half an hour you will find the ability to view the analysis. The analysis is what makes this device impressive. Hours and hours of ECG recordings can be viewed, there are hundreds of pages and sometimes the waveforms may look worrisome but they are likely to be artefacts perhaps due to movement. The analysis disregards any artefacts and can pick up on subtle changes in the wave form and will tell you when and how many unusual heart beats you’ve had. It will also tell you your fastest and slowest heart rates. This is invaluable information and saves the user from trying to work out if there are any unusual heart rhythms. So all in all a little tricky to set up but should prove to be a useful piece of equipment for anyone with any heart concerns. You can send the reports by email and although doctors would want to use their own equipment it would help to share this information with them

Flakey and doesn't work

Very poor connection between the USB adapter and the ER1 monitoring unit. Keeps going open circuit. The s/w on the Mac is very flakey and you can't actually import any data from the ER1Conclusion - save your money and don't buy one of these

Excellent product and highly recommend

This is a fantastic little gadget. I have used it now on several occasions, on myself and a family member. Easy to use. Comfortable to wear, hardly noticeable. Analysis easy to do. Excellent report with narrative summary and complete ECG trace. Every recorded abnormality is marked on the ECG trace and easy to select and view. Very pleased and would highly recommend. Price is reasonable, considering how much it costs to have a 24 hour holter done privately.
