The Complete Guide to Music Technology using Cubase 13

Great guide to Cubase from a genuine expert. Only downside is that some of the screenshots can be hard to see. Recommended for Cubase novices and intermediate users.

I bought this to have a better understanding of Cubase as I am coming to this DAW from Sonar. While the book does provide a lot of information, it reads more like a textbook for a class. Most of the information I was after isn't mentioned until well into the book, and then reads as "audio engineering 101" My money might have been better spent by searching out videos for my particular areas of instructional material. However, if you are just starting out recording and want to learn all the production techniques before getting the tools you need to simply record, this might be your book. It is the only reason I gave it 2 starts and not one.

If Darren Jones had access to my thoughts, he could not have come up with a better book (for me). I've read several recording books and DAW books, but this is the best. It covers everything and more but in language so clear, even I get it. The beginner takes up the thread and is led gently everywhere they need to go and nowhere else (there is no fluff in this tome). I'm so glad it was written and that I found it.

Das Buch gibt eine fantastische Einführung in die Arbeit mit Cubase und findet darüber hinaus auch sicher als Nachschlagemöglichkeit eine sehr gute Anwendung. Was mich aber wirklich sehr begeistert, ist dass auch Aspekte wie Mikrofonierung oder andere Dinge, die bei einer Aufnahme beachtet werden können und sollen, behandelt werden (z.B. balanciertes vs. unbalanciertes Signal etc.). Hierdurch sind mir einige Aspekte deutlich klarer geworden. Der Schreibstil liest sich flüssig und die Abbildungen sind ausreichend groß, so dass man die wichtigen Dinge gut erkennen kann. Meine Anwendung für Cubase ist eher das Recording & Mixing als sehr tief in das Sequencing einzusteigen. Beide Aspekte werden umfangreich behandelt, wodurch ich das Buch als Eierlegende Wollmilchsau bezeichnen würde. Das Ganze zu schaffen ohne nur an der Oberfläche zu kratzen, aber auch nicht ins Unendliche auszuarten, ist schon beeindruckend. Auch gut: Cubase kommt in unterschiedlichen Editionen, die sich im Umfang unterscheiden. Falls Tools behandelt werden, die nur in den teuren Versionen vorhanden sind, wird das klar gekennzeichnet. Sehr gut!
