I was installing a new swag lamp and needed to attach its chain to an existing screw-eye (not a hook) in the ceiling. Opening and closing a link of the chain by bending it was the obvious solution, but was awkward for me due to the height (I'm not good on ladders). I didn't want to replace the eye with a hook, because I like the security of the eye. So I tried using this carabiner to connect the chain to the eye. It helped that the carabiner is available in different sizes and finishes, because I could match it to the lamp chain--it looks pretty much like just another link. The spring-loaded gate of the carabiner worked perfectly. The overall product seems more than adequately strong. Success!

I used these to replace broken D-rings on a 1½" nylon strap.It's at least as sturdy, probably more so, than the D-ring. And should it fail,it's a simple replacement.
