I drilled out to make a 6x45 checker.
These work great on 223, but I use it on 6x45 after I drilled it out a little bigger.

Wonderful!
First things first. I had a live round that got stuck in the chamber of my rifle.. Nothing like sitting there - trying to carefully tap out a *VERY* stuck *LIVE* cartridge on a rifle. After I extracted it ( I used a solid stainless steel cleaning rod to tap out the stuck round ), I purchased a Lyman Ammo Checker Cartridge Gauge, and found that it did a phenomenal job at identifying some cartridges that had somehow not been correctly re-sized. Now - I have no issues and I am able to shoot my reloads with more safety than I previously had. :)** Note ^- the above situation was for my .308 bolt action rifle, but - I have had a similar situation arise with a .223, so I bought a .223 checker as well - hence why I am posting the same review. :)

So...........
I had some questions about whether this would work for a 6x45, but received no good answers. Ordered it anyway. As it comes, it will NOT do 6x45, but after drilling it out to .271, it works fine. Headspace is at the .330 datum, so this hole doesn't affect that. I only wanted this to gauge sized brass, not finished rounds, although it will do that as well. Nice product, within half a thou or so of my Wilson 223 gauge. Longer & lighter than the Wilson, much easier to handle.

Can’t decide whose goof this is …
I wanted a gauge that was cut to SAAMI minimum .223 Remington chamber dimensions, and I guess this gauge is, all of my factory ammo drops right in. However, I also wanted a gauge that was cut to the maximum length of a .223 Remington cartridge, which is 2.260”, for a magazine feed rifle. I should have checked the overall length of this gauge, which is 3.5”. Which, for my purposes, makes it a little useless for measuring overall cartridge length. I guess I’ll have to cut it down to make it work; maybe Lyman should make a 2.260” version for us AR-15 reloaders. If it had been 2.260” long it would be an easy 5-star product. However, for the extra hassle of having to modify it, this gauge only rates a generous 4-stars from me. I’d return it for a refund, but the UPS Store in Fairbanks, Alaska is 200 miles away; so... Amazon needs to figure a way for customers to return product via the USPS.
