Good, reasonable, fairly quiet traditional window AC unit with heat inverter by decent company.
This is not the top-rated U-shaped Midea model, which is in low supply, one of which I bought in 2023.(So I now have both the U-shaped and the traditionally shaped 12,000 BTU Midea AC window units.)Background: 2 years ago I installed the U-shaped model in the kitchen of our 1910 Sears & Roebuck kit house, a fixer upper, while we lived on just the first floor (600 sqft), and it kept the entire first floor ~72 or cooler (depending on setting) nearly all the time. May have been a day or two it struggled to keep up, but we felt no need for a second unit for the 1st floor. It was SUPER quiet; as quiet as the fridge or ceiling fan, unless cranked up, and most of the sound was the fan. So the U-shaped model was what I wanted for the second floor, but couldn't find it anywhere (within $300 of what I paid before). We finally moved into the second floor bedrooms (last fall), so (mid May) we bought this traditional window box unit (not U-shape), but same capacity hoping to similarly service the 600 sqft second floor. (Yes the second floor was carefully reinsulated during the re-do, and it has efficient vinyl clad windows and thermal blinds. Only about 16' of insulation above ceiling, will see if we need more for summer, but it was fine for winter.) This unit included the heat inverter for heating at temps >41 degrees. It WAS significantly simpler & easier to install than the U-shape as there was no need for an external bracket and bracing, and less complex weather stripping. In retrospect, this model may have been better for the second floor since we could easily do the entire installation from the inside of the house. Took a second pair of hands for the 30 seconds of setting the unit in place in the opening (I'm 71).While this 12,000 BTU unit is perhaps not quite as quiet as the U-shaped 12,000 unit, it is comfortably quiet. We still haven't hit the peak heat of summer, but it seems as though it will keep the entire upstairs sleep-ably cool at night at least so long as the doors are left open. For now it cools fine in the heat of the day up to mid 80's and perhaps more (it hasn't yet exceeded 86 outside). We installed the unit in the SSE facing largest room, and it kicks on about when I wake and morning sun starts to warm my room, and during the day is keeping the upstairs from ever getting within 15 degrees of the daytime summer temps upstairs the past two summers. The heat inverter was nice to use without turning on the furnace for a few nights this past week where it dropped from 80's back to 40's in Madison WI. You many want to supplement the adhesive weather stripping for the two slide out panels, where they abut the inside of the window opening and leave a fine crack (I haven't yet sealed it; the crack is too fine for insects so far), and at a couple places under the unit that did need the provided weather-stripping. I think this is a good buy, assuming it endures. These two units (<$1000 total, 2 hours installation total) appear to suffice in place of the 3 quotes of $10,000 - $15,000 for contractor installed central air in this old radiant hot water heated house with no prior air duct engineering. (Can send my kid to school another year instead!)

Small unit, big performance, sooo quiet!
Our old Fredrick finally kicked the bucket and I’ve needed to replace it with the hot Texas weather coming. This one isn’t as large but that was one of my requirements. The old unit was so heavy and physically big that I had to cut it apart to get it out of the wall! I simply did an internet search for 12k btu window units and Consumers Report was the first thing that popped up. And the Midea brand was their number 1 listing. I could hardly believe how high it was rated, wasn’t priced any higher than others, and so I bought it immediately. It occupies less than half the space of the old unit and is so quiet I have to walk over closer to make sure it’s actually running. Naturally, a 12k unit can’t put out the same volume of cold air that the former 18k unit did, but it’s doing a commendable job! Another thing, the old unit shook the wall when it came on so this new Midea is so much quieter. Stealth A/C?I won’t know how well it works as a heat pump until colder weather arrives in 5-6 months, but I expect it to do fine down to its 41° lower limit. That’ll take care of 80% of our needs.

Crap unit
12,000 BTU with heat. Does not blow cold air, cool air only. Box was opened from the bottom and unit had been delivered upside down due to box being opened from the tape seal being broken. It sat on my floor right side up for over a month after I brought it inside. This was supposed to be a new unit but it was not taped on the unit itself in the places my other unit was around the filter housing and vent opening. I was hoping to get help to install from acquaintances but couldn’t . I was able to get it set up by myself with a bit of a struggle. It only blows cool air ,not cold. Had it set to 74 on auto all night long , and when I woke up it was blowing HOT air and my living room was very hot, and was not set on heat, had I been able to install before 30 days I would have returned the unit. I’m not happy! Big disappointment.I had also ordered a U shaped same brand 10000 BTU and installed it in my bedroom. It’s whisper quiet and blows ice cold air , works great, best A/ C I’ve ever had, and I could not be more pleased with it.

GREAT WINDOW AC
We just installed this yesterday. It is definitely a 2 person job We bought this to replace the Midea U shaped that was recalled. We absolutely LOVED the U shape design, however we weren't big fans of the possible mold exposure. This model is the classic design that keeps the window open. But having to use a window AC, it is what it is. Our living space is approximately 525 square feet. We purchased the 12,000 BTU unit and it cooled the space down pretty quick. We live in Central Florida where the temperatures are already up to the mid to upper 90s. So far we're very happy with our purchase. Would definitely recommend.

do not use in high humid climates!!
Easy setup and install. We live in Texas on the Gulf of Mexico and 90%+ humidity is normal, but this system will not remove humidity from the air, it actually made the room worse. The unit doesn't blow super cold air and leave the fan even with AUTO fan option which says it will stop the fan when compressor off, but let me tell you this system on cool will not work in our tropical environment. The only work around I found to be able to use the unit was to use the mobile application and set a schedule for the unit to use the DRY mode which does blow colder air and removes some humidity or at least keeps room stable where it started, still nothing like other portable systems we use that keep rooms at 40 to 50% RH. So this unit will have to be returned due to the lack of dehumidification. Hopefully this helps others.UPDATE after 30 days:I made a drain hole and it now keep humidity low, maybe something in this hot and humid area, but it helped. Bonus is this this blows freezing air, manages run time well, and runs efficiently. Draws less power than another brands 8k btu window unit. Thumbs up!
