Rock-solid high quality foot switch

I am using this foot switch to control a heavy-duty resistance soldering unit that can draw up to 1800 watts (15 amps). This switch is perfect for the job. The housing is heavy duty cast metal. The electrical switch is a high quality switch with contacts rated for 15 amps at 120V, 240V and even 600 VAC. This switch does not arrive pre-wired. You must provide and attach your own wire. You should use 14 AWG or larger diameter wire if you expect to use the switch at its full rated 15 amps. 16 AWG would be OK for short runs and intermittent use.The switch can be wired either Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC), depending on your needs. The contacts are flat-head screws, and they should be used with crimped connectors for the best and safest connection. The screw heads are not as large as the screw heads on (for example) standard 120 volt 15 amp duplex outlets, and it might be difficult to secure a bae wire under the screw heads. If you are not sure of what you are doing, consult a licensed electrician. One additional good feature of this switch is that it has two small holes in the base so that it can be secured permanently with screws in one place on the floor and won't be kicked around inadvertently.Buyers should also note that the rated amperage of the switch contacts is lower for DC power -- 5 amps at 120 V DC. This will be seldom encountered, but you should be aware of the limitation if planning on using in a higher voltage DC application. (This does not apply to standard household voltage, which is alternating current, of course.)

Great foot-pedal

Sturdy, easy to wire up. I got a fourteen-gauge AC/power cable, cut it about a third of the way from the female end. Used spade terminals to connect the white ends, crimped ring terminals to the rest. Male black to COM, female black to NC, greens screwed to the pedal case. This wiring allows power through the pedal until it is depressed. I made two pedals like this: one on the table saw, so I can stop the saw at the end of the cut before bringing my hands all the way back to the front panel where the power switch is; the other, on the drill press, so I can keep my foot on the pedal while aligning a part (for counterboring, say), then remove my foot to power up the drill press without the part shifting. What else is there to say? Good, solid, well-made pedal

Very Good Build Quality. Excellent Price!

This foot switch is definitely better than I expected.Pro:1. Looks very nice. Paint job is very good.2. Heavy duty. Cast Aluminum for the casing. Good materials.3. Rubber feet is sufficient to remain in place while operating it.4. Mechanical operation is reliable with predictable feedback (with clicking sound from the switch).5. Great quality at an excellent price.Con:1. No instructions for general users.2. It would be nice to have an AC outlet built-in (nice to have).I wired it up as shown in the picture and tested it out without issues (for 110V). After I did the wiring, I found out a web site which has step by step instructions on how to wire the foot switch (listed below). The way he did it is almost identical to what I did. The only difference is that I did not cut the neutral and ground wire. I stripped a portion of the ground wire and made it a loop before I fasten it to the case. The only wire need need to cut is the hot (black) wire (as shown in the pictures). The link to the step by step instruction is at http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/diy-foot-switch.html. Hopefully this will help out with your project. :)

Sturdy, easy wiring (you provide parts). Passed initial tests, ready for meat grinder! See pic

I liked the price of this foot switch. I was a little surprised there was no real packaging when it arrived and the insulator/clamp from the picture was not included. I added a NMB clamp and gathered needed parts and tools.I used: 3 crimp on wire connectors (blue), 1 wire nut (yellow), 8 ft. extension cord with ground (cut from extra cord in garage), 1 pair wire strippers/crimpers and phillips screw driver.Disclaimer: I am not an electrician so follow directions at your own risk.1. Cut 8ft of male end extension cord2. Cut off male end of existing appliance (meat grinder)3. Feed both cut ends through NMB clamp threaded into switch4. Strip the green ground wires, twist together, crimp into wire connector and secure with ground screw at bottom of switch5. Strip the ends of two white/common wires, twist together, and secure with wire nut6. Strip the ends of the two black wires and attach a connector to each.7. Identify the black wire from the power cord (wall plug) and attach to the set screw on the COM side (in my picture, the wall power cord is white and the device power cord is black)8. Take the remaining black wire for the device power and secure it under the ON screw in the center.*Before I tightened the NMB clamp or attached the cover, I plugged the floor switch into the wall and turned on my meat grinder to test. After the successful test, I first tightened the clamp screws, then reinspected the wires to ensure they would not interfere with the switch operation9. Attach the cover plate with the four screws and you should be ready for work!As of 11/25/20 I have not used the switch for anything other than testing. If there is catastrophic failure I will edit my review. The switch appears solid and well constructed, but I am leery of the hinge pin quality and a little disappointed I had to provide my own wire insulator/clamp for the back port. I was also a little worried about how tight it was threading into place. I feel confident with the work and look forward to my meat processing adventures without having to reach for the side switch or worry about cleanliness/contamination of the grinder.

Solid, rugged, durable

Needing a replacement footswitch for a customer, I was looking for one that was heavy, robust, and would hold up in high usage (average 250-300 cycles a day). This one fit the bill perfectly, very pleased in all aspects!

Great quality, sturdy and mechanically responsive

Building a pedal based controller with these things. They're tough and responsive, easy to wire, absolutely no reason not to when the cheap plastic ones are 20$ each. I'm showing them to everyone and I bought 4.
